A Simple Process

1
Note the symptom
Exactly what's happening, and when it started.
2
Check the display
Any code or alarm narrows things down fast.
3
Try a power cycle
60 seconds at the breaker clears many intermittent faults.
4
Call if it persists
Describe what you found — it speeds up diagnosis.

Safe to Check Yourself

Temperature and mode settings — especially after a power outage, which sometimes resets them
Door and drawer seals for visible gaps, tears, or debris
Condenser coil airflow — dust buildup behind the base grille
Water supply valves for ice makers and dispensers
Breaker panel for a tripped breaker
Any error code or alarm shown on the display

Leave to a Technician

Sealed refrigeration systems, gas line and igniter components, and anything involving high-voltage electronics (like a microwave’s capacitor) aren’t safe or practical DIY repairs. Attempting them yourself risks injury and can turn a straightforward repair into a much larger one.

Built-ins carry an extra wrinkle here: the water is actively scale-forming, so anything that heats or concentrates it — an ice maker, a heating element, a steam-oven boiler — is losing capacity slowly rather than failing outright. Where that is the cause the fix is a descale rather than a part, and quoting the part instead is why the same fault comes back.
